At Michael Kelly we put sound first. Unlike the other under $1,000
mandolins we have adopted the specifications and building methods of
collectible classic mandolins. We start with a careful fit dovetail neck
joint and a solid spruce top. These are the most important two points to
mandolin tone. We use a thin top with carefully trimmed bracing. We do
additional hand carving on select spots on the top. Thinning out specific
areas to tune the top. We have also increased the depth of our mandolins
compared to other mandolins for under a grand. The combination of detailed
crafting, classic construction and best-in-class materials is what
separates Michael Kelly from other similarly priced musical instruments.
